The Queen is dead and now the world is in mourning. News of The Queen’s passing emerged on Sep. 8, 2022, not long after Buckingham Palace said doctors feared she was gravely ill.

Hour later, they released a statement which read, ‘The Queen died peacefully at Belmoral this afternoon. The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.’

Just days before her death, the monarch received new British Prime Minister Liz Truss at Buckingham Palace on Sep. 5. The longest reigning leader of the British empire, she celebrated her Platinum Jubilee in May 2022.

King Charles III gave his first speech since Queen Elizabeth’s death on Friday. In his speech, he honored his mom. ‘Your love and devotion to our family and to the family of nations you have served so diligently all these years. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest,’ he said.

Kate Middleton leaves Windsor Castle on September 9, the day after Queen Elizabeth’s death. She hid behind sunglasses and drove to pick up her children at school.

Crowds began to gather outside of Buckingham Palace almost the moment news of The Queen’s ill health emerged. It looked like a mixed crowd of reporters, students, and regular folk.
