Hatton Labs' FW22 Collection Is Inspired By One Of The Largest Jewellery Heists Of All Time

East London-based jewellery brand Hatton Labs has returned to present its dazzling Fall/Winter 2022 collection, unveiling a whole host of laid back rings, bracelets and necklaces inspired by Cannes—specifically the area of de La Croisette—and the third largest jewellery heist of all time.

Home to the iconic Cannes film festival, the story goes that, in 2013, 72 pieces of jewellery owned by the Israeli billionaire Lev Avnerovich were on display at the Carlton Hotel and were successfully stolen from the premises with ease. It was also the setting for Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch A Thief, which was ironically created 58 years before the Carlton Hotel heist took place.

As a result, all the cuts and colours of the stones within the new collection are specifically based on the stolen jewels from the heist, which have been reimagined in more contemporary settings. For example, the XL Anchor Bracelet features large multicoloured jewels—reminiscent of the brand’s previous Playboy collaboration—set in intersecting links throughout.

Inspiration has also been taken from scenes surrounding the iconic event and includes references to the Carlton Hotel’s maintenance master key ring, which has been updated with loose hanging replica 55 carat diamonds, and the French poodle effigy. Other features include a diverse range of irregular shaped pearls in rich pinks, greens, blues, and mother of pearl, threaded by artisans with only the finest pearls.

Designed in London and made in Italy by artisans who make pieces for the likes of Chanel, Balenciaga, Gucci and Fendi, a series of crystal droplets delicately intertwined with white freshwater pearls round out the range, emphasising the collection’s elegance.
