Why a classic fisherman cut and a bright hued waterproof coat is the best thing you could do to prepare for rainy days.

Here at T&C, we pride ourselves on our discerning eye for quality. With Tried & True, our editors will give you an inside look at the pieces they simply cannot live without.

If you told me 10 years ago that I would have a favorite raincoat—let alone wear a raincoat on a regular basis—I would have laughed in your face. For years, practicality evaded even the rainiest of days when I would insist on wearing my regular, non-weather-proofed topper and carry an umbrella to stave off droplets. This didn't work so well. And my precious outfits I wanted to preserve? They almost always ended up ruined. I just hated the idea of looking humdrum in a dowdy raincoat. But in the past few years I've come around, and last year I found the raincoat that I will love forever. It's the Baxter Wood Women's Yellow Trawler Raincoat, to be exact. And yes, like the Morton Salt Girl before me, I got it in yellow.

But before I get into why you absolutely should have a bright raincoat, let me count the many technical aspects that make this coat exceed all of its peers. First and foremost, each piece is made with a rubberized polyester lining that is made from 22 recycled plastic bottles. (Who doesn't love taking a little plastic out of the mix?) It's then coated with a polyurethane stretch fabric to be 100% waterproof. It's hard to describe how soft the interior of this rain jacket is, but let's just say, it's really comfortable. It insulates me from the cold when I need it, too, but if it's warm, I don't get sweaty.

Also, the seams are seriously durable. I've worn this raincoat in its fair share of downpours over the past year, but it still looks good as new. And the lines are just so flattering; it's not overly boxy, or so slim I can't fit an outfit underneath. Instead, it is just the right shape—a true classic fisherman-style raincoat. I feel like I can wear it with any outfit and it will look cute. That's saying something!

Which brings me to my final point: you don't need to slog through a gloomy day with a depressing color palette. Give in to the dopamine bursts and buy yourself a raincoat that makes your brain pop with joy when you look at it—even if it means that you have to venture out into a torrential downpour. I love my bright yellow raincoat not just because it's functional, but because it makes me happy every time I see it. That pretty much says it all, doesn't it?
