When kids learn about the myth of the unicorn, the legends are the things that imaginary play is made of.

Unicorns are everywhere people look these days. From stuffed animals, wall art, clothes, toys, movies, cakes, and more, if kids make up part of the household, unicorns are likely part of it as well. And who can blame them? The mythical beings are powerful, courageous, and strong all while being grateful, kind, and pure of heart. There truly is no majestic animal to be. As such, it makes sense as to why kids love unicorns.

When kids see unicorns, they are either all in or not. There really is no middle ground when it comes to being enthralled with the unicorn, the Pegasus, or the alicorn, (unicorn and Pegasus all wrapped up into one) and it is likely that the obsession will last for some time. Because of this, parents of those obsessed with the unicorn should brace themselves to be asked questions at every turn about unicorns and in turn be ready to file away a mental Rolodex of the facts they will be learning about the great horned wonders as well. And the facts will just keep coming, even after parents will have thought they had heard it all.

Here are the reasons why kids love unicorns.

Kids can be drawn to horses initially as a result of hearing about their favorite hero or heroine dashing away from danger on their fearless steed. But it is the calm demeanor of most horses in person that makes kids a fan of horses for life. As such, it is a natural jump for those who love horses to love unicorns as well.

Most kids have at least seen pictures of white horses. According to MamiVerse, most unicorns are described as being horses with horns who possess magic. As such, kids who are automatically drawn to horses love the idea that all that differs between their favorite animal and a unicorn is a horn and a bit of magic. After all, if a horse is the most amazing animal to a child, one that possesses magic is just that much more special than a stallion.

Rhinoceroses, elephants, narwhals, sloths, and other exotic animals would seem like they were nothing more than the musings of kids with wild imaginations, had they never been discovered. Given that unicorns are only horses with one horn, they actually seem like a more feasible animal to exist than many of the animals in existence today.

According to The Cut, kids are drawn to unicorns because they are just realistic enough to be real. After all, they resemble a horse and plenty of other animals have horns. In fact, according to Wildlife Informer, with the genetic mutations that happen in nature, it is not unheard of for deer or other animals to have only one horn versus having the pair that normally sits atop their heads.

Because it sounds far more plausible to have a horse with a horn versus a whale, per the publication, kids have a very easy time suspending their sense of reality and have no problem believing that unicorns at the bare minimum, existed once upon a time. And for some, exist in the world today.

There is no denying that unicorns are absolutely beautiful both in legend and their current day interpretations by illustrators, clothing designers, interior designers, and more. As such, it makes sense that kids find these fabled creatures so desirable.

According to Time, hundreds of years ago when the tale of the unicorn was told in different cultures, it was not unheard of for those who had claimed to have seen a unicorn to "fuse details of multiple creatures" together to explain what they looked like. So much so, that by the time it had morphed into the beautiful creature that it is known as today, it had gone through a transformation that of a large mule with a horn to have a white body, redhead, and a horn made of multiple colors, per the publication.

Whether unicorns would be as popular as they are today were they not envisioned as all white, silver, pink, purple, blue, or sparkly, is uncertain. But with their current incarnation, the popularity of unicorns is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Since the lore of the unicorn began, one of the most discussed subjects on the matter was that of their magic. And that magic is part of what draws kids to unicorns today.

According to Think Unicorn, one of the most popular discussions about the unicorn's magic revolves around the unicorn's horn. This is because legend says that the unicorn's horn can cure any ailment, making unicorns a very sought-after creature.

Further still, legend states that if a unicorn is spotted, those who see them will have "ultimate happiness in life," per the publication. As such, it is no wonder that kids want to know everything about unicorns and hear about their magic so that when using their imagination to play, they can incorporate those facts into the imaginary world that they have created.

Kids love to make themselves go fast. Be it running at turbo speed or pedaling their bikes as quickly as possible, kids do not want to slow down. As such, it makes sense that they would be enamored with unicorns because they move at incredible speeds themselves.

According to Unicorn Yard, unicorns are noted in legends to be the swiftest of all animals. As a result of their "speed and agility" over virtually every terrain, unicorns are rarely seen unless they want to be and are nearly "impossible to tame." Because of this, kids realize just how rare unicorns are, making them love them just a little bit more.
