It may only be September but Malaga city hall is already preparing for Christmas. In July the contract for the Christmas lights was put to tender and now it is time to find a company to organise the Three Kings procession in January, which will be particularly special because 2023 marks its centenary. This contract has been priced at 474,712.43 euros and businesses have until 1pm on 29 September to put in their bid.

The information provided by the Festivals Department is very specific. Among other conditions, the company which is awarded the contract will have to provide 11 floats: the three carrying Melchor, Gaspar and Balthasar will be eight metres long and four wide and there must be four on themes relating to children, with decorations and figures, three on a biblical theme and a special one to commemorate the centenary. All must have artistic lighting and safety elements.

With regard to personnel, there will be 14 security guards on duty from 4pm to 11pm, three ambulances with their crews and 74 auxiliary staff who will have to be equipped with reflective jackets. The company will also have to provide at least 500 identity bracelets for children and at least 250 rain jackets.

Oh, and it definitely must not forget the sweets: 5,000 kilos of jellies and 5,500 kilos of hard sweets will be needed so they can be thrown into the crowds during the parade.
